WHAT HAPPENS WHEN TRANSPORTING THROUGH SPACE BECOMES YOUR WORST FEAR?

   [ Worf, Geordi, and Beverly being transported ]

   [ Barclay cringes with fear ]

   [ Troi counsels Barclay, in her office ]

  Troi:     Why have you kept it a secret?

  Barclay:  Because my career in Starfleet would be over.

TERROR TWISTS THE MIND AND CREATES BIZARRE HALLUCINATIONS

   [ Barclay "in transport", a large "worm thing" grabs his arm ]

   [ Reg awakens and sits up in bed;  His arm is glowing blue ]

   [ Geordi in Engineering ]

  Geordi:  Did you see something during transport?
 
   [ Barclay on the transporter platform ]

  Barclay:  Either there's something in there, or i'm going crazy.

   [ Picard, Riker, Barclay, and Bev in the conference room ]

   [ Bev examines Barclay's arm ]

  Riker:  Let me get this straight, you think this thing was alive?

NOW THE TIME HAS COME TO CROSS THE THRESHOLD OF NO RETURN...

   [ Enterprise approaching what appears to be a red giant
     losing a stream of stellar material to a neutron star ]

   [ Data and Geordi in Engineering; a console explodes,
     but is apparently contained by a force field ]

...AND FACE A PERSONAL NIGHTMARE.

   [ "worm" heading for Barclay's face ]
   [ O'Brien and Geordi in Transporter room ]

  O'Brien:  We need to bring him back.

   [ Data and Geordi examine a glowing, unconscious Barclay ]
